Havilland Mosquito shot down over Putten

Mijn reactie daarop was:

Thank you for bringing this up. This morning I visited both their graves. Sheldrick died in the age of 25, Klapkew in the age of 27. Both young men gave their lives for our freedom.

Their plane got hit by FLAK and crashed into a house. Both pilot and navigator perished as well as 2 children, Barend de Bruin and Henri Scherpenzeel, both 1 year old. On an RAF aerial photograph, taken on the 23rd of March 1945, you can see the destroyed house.

Last weekend I was at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford with my friends. They have a Havilland Mosquito on display there. See this YouTube video for an excellent introduction to this plane.

Coincidentally I bumped into Graham Rodgers (see the aforementioned video) and had a chat with him about this plane and what happened to one of these in our village, Putten. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this museum.
