    Krupp kanon uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog

    Op 25 juli 2025 bezocht ik Beamish Museum in Engeland. Hier staat een Duits 150mm kanon uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog gemaakt door Krupp.

    The gun was captured from the Germans during the 1915 Battle of Hooge in which the Durham Light Infantry were heavily involved.

    Esholt Hall near Leeds was the home of the Yorkshire Water Authority. In 1929 the authority expanded the sewage works at Esholt and took the opportunity to bury the hated memorial under 16 feet of clay. It was rediscovered in 1981 during more works on the sewage works and it was found that the Clay had buried its metal pretty well. It was then sent to Beamish where it was restored and unveiled on August 9th 1987 Hooge day as a memorial to the Durhams who had lost their lives in Battle.

    Op de plaquette staat:

    This Gun was placed in Redman Park as a memorial to the men who died in The War to End All Wars 1914-1918. Unveiled by Lt.Col. R.R. Humpreys (Hoodge Day MCMLXXXVII).

    Bierpul Heeresgruppe Kronprinz Rupprecht von Bayern

    Op 12 mei 2024 kocht ik een bierpul van de Heeresgruppe Kronprinz Rupprecht von Bayern. Het is een 1 liter variant van de periode 1914 – 1918.

    The Army Group Rupprecht of Bavaria or Army Group A (German: Heeresgruppe Kronprinz Rupprecht von Bayern) was an Army Group of the German Army, which operated on the Western Front under command of Rupprecht, Crown Prince of Bavaria, between 28 August 1916 and 11 November 1918 during World War I.

    Little Willie

    Op pagina 197 van het boek Wilhelm, een omstreden eilandgast kom ik de term Kleine Willy tegen (scheldnaam voor kroonprins Wilhelm). Dat doet me denken aan mijn bezoek aan The Tank Museum in Bovington (Engeland) op 23 mei 2022. Daar staat een prototype tank met de naam Little Willie.

    Little Willie was a prototype in the development of the British Mark I tank. Constructed in the autumn of 1915 at the behest of the Landship Committee, it was the first completed tank prototype in history. Little Willie is the oldest surviving individual tank, and is preserved as one of the most famous pieces in the collection of The Tank Museum, Bovington, England.

    Gouden lepel van keizer Wilhelm II

    Op 20 februari 2024 bezocht ik de expositie Goed/fout, naoorlogse afrekening in het Belasting & Douane Museum in Rotterdam. Hier ligt een gouden lepel van keizer Wilhelm II tentoongesteld.

    Gouden lepel uit het bezit van ex-keizer Wilhelm II, gemaakt door J.G. Hossauer, Berlijn, 1829.

    Wilhelm II overleed in 1941 in Huis Doorn. Zijn zoon Wilhelm streed na de oorlog om de keizerlijke bezittingen terug te krijgen. Dit lukte niet, omdat hij geen partij had gekozen tegen de Nazi’s èn omdat de Nederlandse staat er, wellicht ten onrechte, een belastingschuld van de ex-keizer mee verrekende.
